I’ve been under the weather for the last couple of weeks. Allergy symptoms progressed into a flu that finally knocked me out for a couple of days.
Being sick reminds me just how much I take my health for granted.
The more I learn, the more I realize that health is a state of mind.
The problem is that no one teaches us how to train our mind to make it work for us.
What’s even more challenging in our culture today is that our minds are constantly bombarded and are not our own to command.
They’re preoccupied with unnecessary toxic information that we receive from our social media feeds, advertisements, and various entertainment.
These distractions mostly work to “numb” and create “addictions”.
I’ve recently read the book by Cal Newport, and he makes a point about how our attention span is taken up strategically by very smart entities like Facebook, Apple, Google, etc. to make electronic devices and apps “addictive.”
They spend lots of time and money on figuring out how to take our minds further away from us.
So how are we to take ownership and be present in today’s climate?
All this to say, if you’re struggling with attention span and overwhelm, don’t feel bad.
We are up against very powerful entities whose very job is to cause this.
So how do you take ownership over your mind and your thoughts? Yoga!
Yoga is Introspective
At least on the Yoga mat, we tune into our breath, focus inward, and “feel” where we need more or less.
Return to the mat everyday for some tune up and fight the urge to check the social media feeds or email.
You’ll be in full control over your body and mind by practicing Yoga.
At Alkaline Wellness, that’s what we aim to do.
We help you to take ownership over your health and mind so that you can be the best version of yourself and live your best life.
We offer various new student specials for Yoga.
