Jessica Shotwell

Yoga Practitioner

Jess grew up in New England and moved to Georgia in 2015 for graduate school. She earned a PhD in Health Promotion and Behavior from the University of Georgia, where she studied communication science and strategies for promoting positive health behavior change. Since 2021, she’s been applying her expertise to improve global health communications and protect public health.

Jess discovered yoga as a way to support her mental health. She spent years neglecting the psychological wounds of early-life trauma and felt deeply disconnected from her body. Self-doubt, self-criticism, and mistrust—both in herself and others— kept her feeling isolated and afraid. She also believed that past shoulder injuries would limit her ability to practice certain asanas.

But over time, yoga became less of a chore and more of a refuge. She eventually started to feel safe in her body, and through consistent practice, she experienced profound shifts—greater focus, emotional resilience, self-compassion, and a deep sense of inner strength.

Now, Jess is passionate about guiding others on their own journeys of self-discovery and healing. She encourages students to befriend the sensations in their bodies and embrace yoga as a path of deep inner study—not just physical movement, but a practice of self-awareness and inner transformation.
