Hey Yogis, I hope you are having a wonderful week. There’s so much going on in the world that it’s hard to keep up with all the changes. With the shelter-in-place order lifting in most parts of the world, some are venturing out and resuming life as normal. Others are still choosing to stay at home. We’ve gone through challenging times and while it’s not over, I hope all of you have emerged out of this time with more clarity, focus and health. As an entrepreneur, I see all the possibilities. I see possibilities for passion-driven entrepreneurs to create a dream business for themselves. So, as we look ahead to establishing our new normal, why not create the ideal future?
Yoga + Business = Impact
My brick-and-mortar business went from highly successful on it’s up-climb to non-existent. And I’m finding myself re-creating the business. My fellow Yoga and Medical business colleagues are also struggling through this uncertain times as business owners. We are expected to operate at below half capacity, yet expenses remain the same. It’s an impossible situation and a sad one because many business owners poured their heart and soul into their businesses only to have it vanish over night.
When finding ourselves in this predicament, we can do two things:
- Indulge in the feelings of worry and anxiety.
- Get busy finding opportunity in this obstacle.
I choose the latter, and I find myself ever more sure about what I want to create. More and more, I realize how I need to be deeply anchored and aligned to my core values. To create value is not to keep status quo but to think outside the box and create something extraordinary to fill the gap in the market.
Yoga as Medicine
I believe in the power of Yoga as medicine. It’s a powerful modality to help students heal inside and out. Guiding their self-healing journey is the privilege that is available to many Yoga teachers. Too many are stuck in their own limiting beliefs and sadly aren’t aware of this underlying operating system them keeps them paddling hard but grounds them in the same place year after year. Their beliefs about themselves and their careers as Yoga teachers are full of limiting beliefs.
How do I know? I’ve had the fortune of being the employer of a health and wellness center for over 12 years.
Many are so hard wired in believing in the limitations that they fail to see the abundant possibilities that are available.
The New, Ideal Future
We’ve now been open for three weeks, and we are pleasantly surprised to see many new students entering our studio.
My center went through a self-purging process – many individuals who were there before were clearly not aligned with the values of the business. I truly believe this was a necessary purge not only for my business but for everyone.
As CEO, I realize I lacked clarity in the mission and vision of the business. It became blurred and marred by the quick success, and I knew late last year that we needed drastic reorganization. So, with our lean but strong team, we are rebuilding our mighty business. Our core team is truly aligned with the mission and vision of the business, and I can’t tell you what a difference this makes. I am loving this challenge because it’s requiring me to be more uncomfortable, which also means that I must step and grow as I evolve.
So, as all of you think to establishing a new normal, I want to challenge you to dare to dream big and create an ideal future.
We will be taking strides to establish our normal again, and I don’t want you to settle for how things settle. In order to go after what you want, you must step up and be proactive about creating your ideal future. Left to chance, you’ll default back to the ways of the world. We can let life happen to us, or we can actively create our dream life.
Each one of you has the power to create the dream life you can envision. Yet, we leave so much to chance and prefer security over risk. Growing requires you to be willing to feel the discomfort and the pains. To avoid feeling the discomfort, many choose status quo.
Asking More From Yourself
Our world is rapidly changing. I see a huge opportunity for those who are willing to step up to create the life of their dreams doing what they love. Commitment to excellence, willingness to learn and apply the learning are part of the process for mastery of any skill. I want to personally invite you to ask more from yourself.
YOU are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with the most. So take a hard look around you and decide if you need to level up to go where you need to go.
Did you know that we have an amazing group of Yogis who are wanting to elevate their practice and up-level their lives?
You have the opportunity to give the gift of health to your students and clients. Take Yoga Teaching as a profession seriously because you are the leader who your students look up to.
Leadership is a skill that requires growth. Choose yourself and decide to be extraordinary versus keeping the status quo.
